About.
I’m Scott Monaco — a writer, photographer, and occasional adventurer. I tell stories from unexpected places, often while wondering how I got there.
Over the past fifteen years, I’ve lived and worked across Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America, traveling to more than 80 countries with a camera in one hand and a notebook in the other. My work is rooted in curiosity — not just about where we go, but how we connect when we get there.
I focus on places often overlooked or misunderstood, telling stories that blend cultural insight, visual atmosphere, and a little dry humor. I believe good travel content isn’t about centering yourself — it’s about noticing more, getting a little lost, and making room for surprise.
I’ve just finished a memoir about five years living in China — part cultural commentary, part comedic unraveling — and I run a Substack newsletter where I share essays, photographic dispatches, and curated reading lists from around the world.
Everything I make — from the writing and prints to the forthcoming guides I’m building — is part of a bigger project: helping people travel with more thought and less ego. The goal is to make the world, especially its lesser-known corners, feel more approachable, more human, and more fun to explore.
If you're a publication, editor, tourism board, or traveler looking to collaborate — let’s talk.
And if you think of yourself as a creative patron, I have a very unique opportunity for you on Substack.
